Pluimpot wildlife area can be found close to the camping site. This former estuary was dammed up in 1957, creating a resting and nesting ground for birds in particular. Bird-watchers will be able to discover rare bird species, while the exceptional flora is also appreciated by many. Click here for a panoramic picture taken at the Pluimpot wildlife area. One section of the wildlife conservation project, Plan Redshank, which has been created all around the East Scheldt, lies at only a few kilometres from the camping site. You can enjoy the special flora and fauna from the bird hides and vantage points, or join the bird-watching excursions in this area. Rammergors wildlife area is situated at about 15 kilometres from the camping site. Wild free-ranging Scottish Highlanders and Shetland ponies leisurely graze here during the summer. The walking route that snakes its way through the area enables you to discover this wonderful piece of nature. The bird-watching wall offers a unique panorama of the special bird population. On the island of Tholen, there are many quiet dikes and polder roads that are particularly worth discovering, especially for cyclists and ramblers (Nordic walkers). Various cycling and rambling routes are available. Bergen op Zoom is also only a 25-minute drive away. This attractive and exuberant town with its Markiezen Court and wide range of shops and restaurants was recently voted the best inner city of the Netherlands. As Tholen is in a central position, cities such as Middelburg, Vlissingen, Antwerp, Rotterdam and Breda are less than an hour's drive from de Muie. |
